New Styrofoam Alternative

May 5th, 2019

Integritemp, a division of Plastilite (who supplies us with our styrofoam coolers) is a Nebraska based company and have announced their newest product – REFOAM!

REFOAM is an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) material with an additive to catalyze degradation while promoting oxidation.
Normally, EPS products take hundreds of years to degrade. The additive in REFOAM speeds up the process allowing degradation to start within the span of a few years helping to make it suitable for newer bioreactive landfills unlike traditional EPS. When stored indoors and kept dry, the REFOAM product does not allude to signs of degradation for approximately two years. If ever left outside and exposed to heat, moisture, or sunlight -the degradation process is activated, with an added bonus that it is non-toxic and free of heavy metals, free from chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), hydro-chlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), hydrofluorocarbon (HFC), or formaldehyde and the final material is no longer a plastic or a micro plastic. All the while, REFOAM can be up to 98% air, yet durable, versatile, effective, and economical for protective or insulative use.

Crystal Creek has not yet tested Integritemp’s new REFOAM technology, but recognizes it as a fantastic solution in the effort to reduce waste and promote sustainable shipping practices.
